Meet in Dublin City at 9am

We might start our day at a lovely mixed farm in Wicklow that has been in the same family for three generations. The Johnston family bought the land in the early 1900s and the 300 year old house and farm buildings are still standing today. The farm produces wonderful summer and autumn fruits, their own traditional beef and lamb, press their own apple juice and keep bees for their own honey. This farm is not just about producing food: 60 acres of land are reserved to give unspoilt natural habitat for wildlife.

From there we will call in to a beekeeper whose bees produce wonderful honey which varies from year to year depending on what blossoms best in the area that summer. We will learn firsthand all about the life cycle of the bee, how the honey is produced, taken from the hives, spun off the frames etc. and of course you get to taste this sublime honey.

For lunch we will enjoy a splendid picnic made up of local cheeses, meats, salads and locally pressed juices from farms in the area, all accompanied by that wonderful bread we made this morning. This will be followed by freshly brewed tea and coffee with handmade chocolates and berries as in season.

Our last stop will be to a small award winning cheese makers who will show us how they make two excellent cheese. Milk for this cheese is supplied by their own herd and they will show us cheese at various stages of maturation, the new cheese house built from the old outbuildings in the yard of the farm. This is an exciting cheesemaker who is constantly experimenting and developing his produce.

We will arrive back to our assembly point at 6pm.
